LOCATIONS
The following are some locations that would make good stopovers for either
interview subjects or visual material for “Anne of Japan”:
Weddings at the Green Gables museum, overseen by George Campbell, the man
who organises the weddings at Park Corner. The song “The Voice the Breathed O’er Eden”, which is the song that accompanied Lucy Maud’s wedding, is also played at these weddings.
Anne’s Academy is a fine-arts school that operates on the southern island of Kyushu, operated by Kiyomi Matsufuji, who according to a 1991 Globe and Mail article “has an almost mystical belief that [Prince Edward Island], its spectacular scenery and friendly inhabitants have the power to unleash people’s creative potential.”
Shincho-Sha
publishers in Tokyo.
Lucy Maud Montgomery’s house in New London, Prince
Edward Island.
Language immersion course taken by young Japanese on Prince
Edward Island.
The touring musical theatre version of Anne.
The Green Gables house at Cavendish.
At the Prince Edward CP hotel in Charlottetown, interview some
of their Japanese-speaking employees. Have a look at some of the Japanese
specialties that can be provided with a bit of advance warning: lobster
sashimi, the special “Anne dinner”, the Japanese-language video of P.E.I. scenery, and “enjoyable time with ‘Anne.’”
